Bed Bug Remediation and Prevention
Bed bugs are small, flat, brown insects that feed on their hosts during evening hours. They can be found in all types of commercial properties. They move from place to place in luggage, clothing, furniture and other items. The bites of bed bugs may leave itchy welts or no signs at all. Bed bugs can live for nearly a year without feeding, and because they’re dormant during the day, an infestation can be difficult to identify.
Commercial property owners face liability risks if guests are bitten or get bed bugs from the establishment.
Identifying Bed Bug Infestations
Once you know what to look for, it is easier to keep bed bug problems under control. These insects can live in almost any crevice or protected location, but they prefer to live in or around feeding areas. Look in these areas for signs of bed bugs that may include the following:
- Black spots or stains from fecal matter
- Rusty or red smears on sheets from smashed bugs that have recently fed
- Tannish shed skins
- Live bed bugs
- Unusual or un-identifiable bites
Bed bugs cannot be removed through cleaning of infested areas, at least not completely. Proper commercial bed bug services must be performed.
